Policymakers for Peace uplifts and advocates for legislation that invests in communities that are disproportionately impacted by gun violence. Below is a list of bills that members of the network have introduced, and legislation that is endorsed by the Community Justice Action Fund. 

 

Federal Legislation

  •  Title: Break the Cycle of Violence Act

    • Bill Number: H.R. 4418, S. 2275

    • Summary: This bill would authorize $5 million to implement evidence-informed community violence intervention (CVI) and prevention programs in communities that have high-rates of gun violence. 

  • Title: Bipartisan Solution to Cyclical Violence Act

    • Bill Number: H.R. 1260

    • Sponsor: Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (MD)

    • Summary: This bill would authorize $10 million in federal grants for hospitals that expand or create violence intervention and prevention programs.   

  • Title: End Gun Violence Act

    • Bill Number: H.R. 5878

    • Sponsor: Congressman Joe Neguse (CO)

    • Summary: This bill would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition to any person who hasbeen convicted of a misdemeanor crime of interpersonal violence for five years.

  • Title: Federal Firearm Licensee Act

    • Bill Number: H.R. 6225

    • Sponsor: Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL)

    • Summary: This bill would update sections in the U.S. Code pertaining to federal firearm licensees to address gun trafficking.

  • Title: PATHS Act

    • Bill Number: S. 2873

    • Summary: This bill would establish a grant program to implement mental health services for those in high-violence communities negatively impacted by gun violence.

  •  Title: Task Force on Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls

    • Summary: This bill would create a task force on missing and murdered African American women and girls.

  • Title: Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Act

    • Bill Number: HB 1580

    • Sponsor: State Rep. Jon Rosenthal (TX)

    • Summary: This bill would establish an office of community violence intervention and prevention within the Department of State Health Services and a grant program for violence intervention and prevention services.

  • Title: Community Violence Task Force

    • Bill Number: SB 1196

    • Summary: This bill would create a Community Violence Task Force within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to review systematic failures and causes of high crime rates and violence in urban communities.
